Bolero's Trusted Trade Platform

The Bolero Trusted Trade Platform (TTP) provides the mission-critical infrastructure to enable the secure, guaranteed exchange of trade information and contractually binding trade documents. The Trusted Trade Platform bundles the key functionality that is required to dematerialise international trade documents. In addition to providing stand-alone solution value as a platform, it is also a pre-requisite for the Bolero Application Suites.

The Trusted Trade Platform bundles the key functionality that is required to dematerialise international trade documents:

All documents are logged in the messaging hub to guarantee delivery and provide a full audit trail in the event of dispute
Documentary Credit and Open Account automation and optimization on a single consistent platform
Documents are secured with digital signatures and encryption to guarantee authentication, non-repudiation, data integrity and confidentiality
A contract, applicable to every major trading jurisdiction in the world, ensures that Bolero documents are binding
A common language – boleroXML and Internet protocols – ensures interoperation of disparate systems
A complete range of documents are provided – more than 100 out of the box – based upon a single, underlying data model
Used by Importers and Exporters across a wide industry spectrum – commodities, textiles, spirits and tobacco, automobiles, electronics
Operated by SWIFT – the international banking co-operative – and supported by over 80 per cent of the world’s largest trade banks

Hosting and Operations:

Bolero provides a hosted service designed to meet the exacting operational standards of the international trade community. All Bolero services are built on a redundant, clustered architecture with no single point of failure. The services are hosted by SWIFT in the SWIFT Operating Centres and adhere to SWIFT standard procedures for operations, change control and audits.

Security and Messaging:

The Bolero messaging hub provides guaranteed delivery and originality of all documents. Transport and message format protocols adhere to the Internet standards of smtp, https, IMAP and S/MIME. The messaging protocol, designed by SWIFT, provides acknowledgement and notification of document delivery.

Bolero’s security architecture is based upon a Public Key Infrastructure and adheres to the ISO standard X.509v3 and IECC standard PKCS# protocols. Registration authority services are provided through banks, and the Certification Authority is operated by SWIFT. All Bolero messages and acknowledgements are digitally signed with 1024 bit keys and optionally encrypted at 128 bits, based upon the 3DES protocol. All interactive communication is encrypted at 128 bits.

Document Standards:

Bolero supports a complete range of structured and unstructured trade documents. Unstructured documents can be presented in any format, including all Microsoft, image and text formats.

Bolero’s central data services are based upon the XML syntax. Bolero has created an end-to-end trade data model and over 100 associated document types that belong to the boleroXML standard. boleroXML is a source standard for ebXML.

Bolero also provides translation services that enable any-to-any translation of structured formats

Rule Book (Legal Standards):

The Rulebook is a multi-lateral contract that ensures that all parties agree to be governed by a common set of rules enshrining the key elements of the Bolero service.

The Bolero Rulebook was developed following a comprehensive feasibility study. The study was undertaken by Allen & Overy and Richards Butler, two major international law firms based in London, and represents one of the most extensive studies ever undertaken into electronic commerce related legal issues.

Web Access Layer:

Enabling rapid implementation and a configurable user experience, the Bolero Web Access tool provides our customers with the capability to access all of Bolero’s Open Account and Documentary Credit modules, as well as the Trusted Trade Platform. The Bolero Web Access layer allows the upload and download of documents from the back-office as well as a fully functional, on-line document management environment.

Connectivity Layer:

For customers looking to achieve Straight Through Processing (STP), Bolero provides gateway and integration tools to connect the back-office directly to the Bolero Trusted Trade Platform. The gateway handles digital signature creation and validation, message creation, acknowledgement reconciliation and back-office interfacing. Integration tools allow mapping and translation to and from all back-office formats.
